In this session Kathleen will discuss the current climate of gender equality and demonstrate the expanding roles women are playing in their communities.  From education, careers, family life to wealth and philanthropy investing in women isn’t just the right thing to do – it’s the smart thing to do.  An advocate for investing in women, Kathleen is a 25+ year veteran of the financial services industry who has dedicated much of her career to focusing on increasing the industry’s understanding of and responsiveness to the financial planning needs of women. At Pax World and Pax Ellevate, Kathleen leads initiatives related to gender diversity and women’s leadership, and oversees the firm’s broader contributions to thought leadership related to women and sustainable investing and to gender equality as an investment concept. In 2015, Kathleen was named to InvestmentNews’ inaugural Women to Watch list, which honors female financial advisors and industry executives who are distinguished leaders at their firms.  Prior to her current role, Kathleen was President of Catalina Leadership, a strategic advisory organization she launched that focused on investing in women, and was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs for 13 years.

Rachel and Kelly will join forces to explore women in Rhode Island - what is the current economic state of women in RI, what are the current issues they face what are issues of most importance and lastly where RI women investing their dollars as they think about giving back to the community.


Rachel has served as the Executive Director of the Economic Progress Institute since September 2015. Prior to that, she was a senior policy analyst with the Institute for 10 years. Rachel is responsible, along with the Board, for the strategic and fund development of the organization, as well as the administration and management of the staff. Rachel serves on the Permanent Legislative Commission on Child Care, the Rhode Island Early Learning Council and the Child Support Guidelines Review Committee. Rachel has a Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College and a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center.


Kelly is the Executive Director of the Women’s Fund of Rhode Island, whose mission is to invest in women and girls through research, advocacy and strategic partnerships.  Previous nonprofit roles include Executive Director of the Volunteer Center of RI and Director of Donor Services for United Way of RI.  Kelly has Master's Degrees in Education from the University of Rhode Island and in Leadership from Roger Williams University.  Areas of expertise include employee/volunteer/board development, women’s leadership and gender equity.  She is a board member of RI Public Broadcasting Service and the Association of Fundraising Professionals and a member of the Beta II Class of LeadershipRI.
