Estate Planning and Planned Giving with a Social and Racial Justice Framework

Presented by: Lorraine del Prado, del Prado Philanthropy and Thompson & Associates

For several months now, our nation has been confronting the systemic injustices suffered by black, indigenous and people of color.  Individuals and institutions have been reckoning with America’s racist past and have expressed a desire and determination to build a more just and inclusive world through their personal behavior, work, advocacy, volunteering, political action and charitable contributions.  There is an additional and important way for individuals to take part in the pursuit of greater equity – you can also apply a social and racial justice lens to estate planning and planned giving.

In this webinar, our presenter will share how social and racial justice values can be incorporated in pre-estate planning reflections, in documents that communicate one’s values and vision for wealth, in the creation of a values-based estate distribution plan, in the choice of charities and programs that would benefit from estate giving, in how assets are invested and managed and in the engagement of estate planning professionals.

This important conversation will provide some insights that you may find useful in your own personal planning and also prepare you for conversations with donors who are seeking to align their estate planning and planned giving with their social and racial justice values.

Lorraine del Prado is principal of del Prado Philanthropy and Vice President of Thompson & Associates.  She specializes in values-based estate planning consulting and philanthropic planning and is a frequent speaker on topics related to philanthropy and purposeful estate plans.  Lorraine has been in the field of charitable planning for more than 27 years and holds the designations of Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG), Fellow in Charitable Estate Planning (FCEP) and Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE).

In terms of volunteer leadership, she is President of Leave 10, Board Member of the Seattle Philanthropic Advisors Network, Past Chair of the Grant Leadership Team of the Washington Women’s Foundation, and Faculty in AHP’s Madison Institute Planned Giving Track.  In 2017, she was honored by the Washington Planned Giving Council with the Frank Minton Professional Achievement Award.
