Session One:
Findings from The U.S. Trust® Study of High Net Worth Philanthropy

Established in 2006, this groundbreaking study, conducted in partnership with The Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University, is the largest and most comprehensive survey to date of the charitable practices and attitudes of wealthy Americans. The 2016 study will explore many of the same issues probed in earlier versions of this research, including how much, where, and why wealthy donors give their time and money. It will also expand into several new areas, such as how and the frequency in which donors measure and monitor the results of their giving. The findings in the 2016 study impact and inform the practices of donors, non-profit organizations and advisors alike. The study’s full report is available at http://www.ustrust.com/philanthropy
Joy Hunter Chaillou is a Senior Vice President and National Practice Executive at U.S. Trust. Joy heads up our Nonprofit Consulting and Planned Giving practice. She is responsible for developing the consulting service offering to nonprofit organizations and providing strategic advice to help institutional clients pursue their mission-related objectives. Her areas of focus include governance, board dynamics, strategic development planning and education. Joy works closely with organizational leadership, boards of directors and key stakeholders to provide tailored services, solutions, and best practices to assist in capitalizing on opportunities and addressing challenges in support of successful mission fulfillment. Joy is a founder of the Association of Fundraising Professionals in Westchester County, New York; serves Development Chair on the board of Girl’s Inc. Westchester, and is an active board member for The Children’s Support Foundation and Saints John and Paul School Foundation. Joy is an active planned giving advisory committee volunteer for myriad organizations across the nonprofit sector. She recently co-authored a book titled, Nonprofit Investment & Development Solutions: A guide to thriving in today’s economy published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
Session Two:
Drafting Gift Agreements

This session will cover best practices for drafting gift agreements and how to avoid potential pitfalls. It will include tips for agreements related to naming opportunities, endowments, and gifts funded with bequests and life income gifts. Considerations for matters related to binding obligations, stewardship, internal processes and gift acceptance policies will also be covered.
Elizabeth Manchester has extensive experience advising individuals and tax exempt organizations about charitable gift planning, taxation, corporate governance and compliance. She began her legal career at the Providence firm of Davis, Kilmarx, Swan & Bowling and then practiced at the Providence office of Nixon Peabody LLP. She then moved to Brown University into the role of Associate Director of Planned Giving. She is presently the first Director of Planned and Estate Giving at Providence College and has her own law practice, Manchester Law, LLC.
Elizabeth graduated from Providence College, obtained her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law and her MBA from Providence College. She is a member of both the Rhode Island and Massachusetts Bar. Elizabeth is a board member and volunteers for several nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island, including Rhode Island Communities for Addiction Recovery Efforts, the Women’s Resource Center of Newport and Bristol Counties and Bethany Home of Rhode Island. She was recently appointed to the board of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning of Rhode Island. She was also selected to be a participant in the Mu II 2016 class of Leadership Rhode Island.
